Our Service Area: Eight Southwest Ohio Counties

Vaccar Aeration provides core aeration and overseeding across eight counties in southwest Ohio — Montgomery, Greene, Miami, Clark, Warren, Butler, Preble, and Darke. That covers Dayton and every ring suburb, the county seats, and the farm-belt villages in between.

Aeration and overseeding are the only services we sell. We are not a full-service lawn care company fitting aeration around fertilizer routes, which means we schedule the season around the window when this work actually pays off.

Counties We Serve

Montgomery County — Dayton and the inner ring. Glacial till clay, with river-terrace outwash along the Great Miami, Stillwater, and Mad rivers.
Greene County — fast-draining Mad River outwash in the west, heavier clay till toward Xenia and the east.
Miami County — Troy, Piqua, Tipp City. Prime farmland, and inherited plow pans under a lot of the newer subdivisions.
Clark County — Springfield and surrounds. Outwash gravel, heavy till, and shallow limestone all in one county.
Warren County — Mason, Lebanon, Springboro. New-build construction compaction is the dominant problem here.
Butler County — Hamilton, Fairfield, West Chester, Oxford. Old industrial lots and fast-growing suburbs side by side.
Preble County — Eaton and rural Twin Creek country. Large unirrigated lots, wells and septic to work around.
Darke County — Greenville and the flat, intensively farmed northwest. Heavy tiled clay and serious wind exposure.

Why the Soil Varies So Much Across Eight Counties

Southwest Ohio was shaped by the last ice age, and the ice did not leave the same thing everywhere. Most of the region is covered in glacial till — unsorted clay, silt, sand, and stone pushed into place and left behind. Till makes for dense, clay-rich subsoil that drains slowly and compacts easily.

But the meltwater rivers cut valleys through that till and filled them with sorted sand and gravel — outwash. Those valleys follow the Great Miami, the Mad River, the Stillwater, and the Little Miami, and lawns sitting on them behave nothing like lawns half a mile away on the upland.

The practical upshot: a compacted clay lawn and a compacted gravel lawn need the same treatment for opposite reasons. On clay, aeration lets water in. On outwash, it lets roots down to where the water still is. Either way the limiting factor is the same — a compacted layer the roots cannot cross.

Scheduling Across the Region

The productive fall window is roughly six weeks long, from late August through mid-October, and every lawn in eight counties wants it simultaneously. On the outer counties — Butler, Darke, Preble — we schedule in clusters, so booking early gives us the best chance of grouping your property with others nearby.
